5 points to know when choosing your inflatable SUP

Partager

Choosing an inflatable SUP isn't always easy. There are a multitude of models on the market, to suit all budgets. Here's our advice on what to look out for when choosing your paddle board.

1) Coating

The coating of your inflatable SUP is a very important point. Depending on the coating, your paddle will be more or less resistant and will last more or less over time. On the market, you'll find 2 coatings:

  • Single-skin inflatable SUPs
  • Double-skin inflatable SUPs

The more layers there are, the fewer water infiltrations and air leaks there are. Double skins also enhance impact resistance.

2) Gluing

Just like the cover, the gluing method is a key factor in choosing an inflatable SUP. Depending on the gluing method used by the manufacturer, your SUP will be more or less resistant. There are 2 gluing methods:

  • Classic collage
  • Fusion gluing: hot gluing that fuses the skins together. This type of gluing makes the paddle 2 to 3kg lighter, and gives it greater flexibility, making it softer when deflated and easier to fold.

3) Dropstitch density

What is Dropstich? Dropstich is the braiding of wire inside the skin of an inflatable SUP. Once inflated, it makes the paddle rigid and prevents it from bending during use. The denser the weave, the higher the pressure of the inflated board, and the greater its rigidity and performance.

4) Accessories

When you buy an inflatable SUP, depending on the model and manufacturer you choose, you'll be supplied with several accessories. In most cases, when you buy your inflatable paddle, you'll be supplied with a storage bag and a pump. So pay attention to the quality of the accessories! Also check the quality of the pad attached to the board. Finally, pay attention to the SUP's overall finish and design.

5) Sizing

Finally, your inflatable SUP must be adapted to your needs. So it's essential to adapt the size and volume of your board to its intended use. There are many uses for a SUP:

  • Stroll
  • Surf
  • Breed
  • Yoga
  • Fishing...
